U13 Girls Volleyball Semi Final
TES 2 - 1 KES
The girls U13 ISACK Volleyball season is fast drawing to a close. On Sunday the TES girls secured victory against KES which sees the squad safely through to the final.
KES, had greatly improved their game since the last time the two teams met during the group stages. They played some excellent Volleyball as did our girls making today's semi final an exciting one. KES took the first set 25-21, after some excellent serving. But, after a nervous first set, the TES girls fought back and improved their game, winning the second set convincingly, 25-12. As we moved into the final and deciding set, both teams showed great passion and determination to win. Nonetheless, powerful and consistent serving from the TES girls and some superb returns, ensured that they won the final set, 15-10 in the end. It was a hard fought match, but to come from 1 set down and win shows what great courage and perseverance the TES students have. Well done girls; win or lose, making an ISACK final is an outstanding achievement. The girls have worked extremely hard this season and thoroughly deserve their place in the final. The final takes place next week on Tuesday, 12th April at FSIS.
U13 Boys Basketball Semi Final
TES 15 - 10 NES
On Tuesday the boys took on NES in the semi final of the U13 basketball competition. As the holders of the trophy and having won 5 out of 5 games in the group stage, TES were confident of victory against NES. However, the NES tactics meant that TES would be in for a difficult game and scoring would be hard to come by. NES adopted a zone defence from the start of the game, which is illegal in U13 ISACK basketball. It meant that TES found it hard to break down the NES defence. At the end of the first quarter the TES team led 6-4 and at half time the score was 10-6 to TES. In the third quarter TES increased their lead and due to NES staying in a zone defence TES played keep ball to try and draw the NES defenders out of position. The NES defenders would not move from their zone defence and the minutes ticked away as the TES squad passed the ball around as they led the game 12-8. In the 4th quarter again the NES defence sat back and showed no interest in coming to try and get the ball, so again the TES squad moved the ball around, waiting for NES to come and get the ball. Eventually after a few minutes of total possession from TES the attack broke down and NES gained two free throws which they scored to make the score 12-10. TES then hit back with one free throw from Evan and then as the time ticked away Basil scored to make the final scoreline 15-10. It was a very disciplined display from TES who were very frustrated by the NES tactics. At U13 level a zone defence is not allowed, so that it encourages the players to drive at the basket, which develops their skill level. The NES team did not seem interested in trying to win the ball and credit should be given to the TES boys who kept their discipline to run the clock down to progress through to the final. It was not the type of game the TES squad wanted as the usual TES attacking style of play was thwarted by a team who clearly came to sit back. Nonetheless the TES squad did their job and now face BSK in the final on Thursday 28th April. Well done boys.
Y5/6 Boys Basketball
Boys reign supreme to defend KFSAC basketball title
On Wednesday the boys basketball team travelled to NES for the annual KFSAC basketball competition. The TES team were to take on 5 schools, TEA, NES, KES, BSK and TEP in a round robin tournament with a semi final and final. The boys convincingly beat TEP 9-2, BSK 6-4, KES 10-1, TEP 12-0 and NES 12-4 to move into the semi finals. In the semi final the TES squad played TEA and won easily 12-0. The result put them into the final against KES. In a tough game the boys defended very well and came through to win the game 4-1. It was a terrific performance and all of the squad should be extremely proud of their achievements. The boys have worked extremely hard in training and fully deserve to be crowned KFSAC champions. Alongside the girls also winning the KFSAC trophy on the same day, the results mean that out of 17 competitions in KFSAC, TES have won 13 this year to set a new KFSAC record. Fabulous stuff and an amazing achievement by all involved. Well done to: Basil (C), Ahmed, Manno, Matthew, Truman, Benjamin, Abdul and Maro.
Y5/6 Girls Basketball
Girls win KFSAC title in fantastic style
Wednesday saw the Year 5/6 girls in action in the final event of the KFSAC season, was the Girls and Boys Basketball tournaments at NES. The aim today was to finish an already successful season on a high.
The girls started off well, with a convincing and well deserved win against TEPS. Straight after this match, they were against TEA who battled hard and made things difficult. But the resilience and speed of the TES girls proved too much as they claimed another victory. After just two games, the girls had scored 11 baskets and conceded just 2- a fantastic start to the tournament. Next up, were BSK, who the girls knew would be fierce competition. The game was intense from the start, but the TES girls won 8-2 in the end, making it 3 wins from 3. The girls proceeded to play their last two matches against NES and KES. Both teams looked tough and had made a good start to their tournament campaigns. Defensively, they were strong and made it difficult for our girls to score. But our girls never gave up and found a way through, defeating both teams to make it 5 wins out of 5, progressing into the semi finals as top seeds. Here, the girls faced BSK
once again, who did not make it easy the second time round, but tight defence and fast passing around the court, saw the girls win the match 6-2 to take them through to the final. Our opponents here were NES. Both teams fought hard from start to finish, but once the TES squad found their feet, our girls battled bravely to win the match 8-2 in the end. Sterling performances from everyone today and hard work paid off- a fabulous way to finish the KFSAC season! Well done to: Tamara (C), Darcy, Riri, Angelina, Melanie, Sienna, Josefin and Zoha.
