On Wednesday, 19th February TES Year 5 to 8 Sports Day took place at Salmiya Stadium. It was a beautiful morning in Kuwait and the weather was perfect for the host of events that would take place throughout the day. The day began with the field events of: long jump, high jump, triple jump, javelin, shot putt and discus. Pupils competed for their house groups of Balmoral, Buckingham, Sandringham and Windsor. The pupils had chosen their events through discussion with their house team in the weeks leading up to sports day. There were some excellent performers on show and some fantastic school records were set in each year group. In all, 16 records were set during the 36 field events. However, the main focus of sports day as ever was to ensure that all pupils took part and were involved in the day to gain points for their house. It was excellent to see the support and team spirit amongst the different year groups, which is what the day is all about.
After the field events the pupils went to the stands for a short break to eat lunch and to wait for the track events to begin. By now a large crowd of parents and spectators had gathered to watch the action. Again the TES competitors produced some outstanding performances, setting 13 records in the 30 track events that took place. Pupils competed in the 90m sprint, 200m, 300m, 400m, 600m and the 800m. The track events were concluded with the eagerly anticipated relays, which were enjoyed by all of the children taking part and the spectators. After the relays the annual teachers race took place with the sports department team of Mr Blackburn, Mr Heskett, Mrs Peterson and Mr Leaver taking the honours in 1st place. After the excitement of the teachers relay the results were announced with Windsor house taking 1st place by just 8 points over Sandringham. Mr Peacock awarded the house trophy and also announced the outstanding performers of the day. This brought to an end another great TES sports day. In all 66 events took place and 29 school records were set. Every pupil from Year 5 to 8 took part in an event and there were some fabulous performances from the TES pupils and whether they finished in 1st place or 8th place each pupil who took part in an event contributed to their house teams overall total. Well done to all of the pupils and all of the staff that helped out to make TES Year 5 to 8 sports day 2014 a super day to remember.
