Physical Education

PE & Swimming

PE

Physical Education is an integral part of the school curriculum. Being a small school, we have a wonderful opportunity to get to know our children and develop a personalised approach to their learning to offer the very best holistic PE experience. Pupils are stretched and enriched by a PE British leaning curriculum that is broad, challenging and varied, and caters for the individual needs of each child, whilst remaining relevant to the context of the school. Pupils are encouraged to develop their social and personal skills, with a strong emphasis upon good manners and respect for one another. Our school’s core values of Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Confidence and Empathy are at the heart of all we do in PE, and we aim for each child to develop these traits through curricular and extra curricular activities.

There are ample opportunities for children to participate in school sports. We are permanent members of two national sport partnerships (KFSAC & ISACK) which organise competitive sports fixtures between the international schools in Kuwait. Furthermore, we are a respected team within BSME, and compete against the best schools in the Middle East in football, volleyball, basketball, netball, athletics and swimming.

Curriculum time is split into ‘PE’ and ‘Games’ lessons. In PE, pupils will holistically develop their skills and understanding of exercise, physiology, leadership and collaboration through a wide range of physical activities. Our Games lessons are tailored towards developing confidence and skill in the competitive sports that are played at KFSAC, ISACK and BSME.

Swimming

Learning how to swim and stay safe in the water, is a vitally important aspect of children’s education. We prioritise swimming as a key facet of physical education, and all pupils from KG – Year 8 have swimming lessons during term 1 and term 3, which are taught by two swimming specialists. Our primary concern is that children are safe when they are in the pool, and we employ a qualified lifeguard to oversee the children’s safety whilst swimming and rely on our learning support staff to help those with additional educational needs.

We are an accredited member of Swim England, whose membership requires us to meet high standards of health & safety, teacher qualifications and pool management procedures. This all ensures that our pupils are taught to swim in a safe, clean and professionally competent environment which meets British regulations and standards.

Along with offering a comprehensive swimming programme which caters for all abilities, we also encourage our stronger swimmers to compete in national (KFSAC & ISACK) and international competitions (BSME). Training for our school swim teams can be either be before school, after school or at weekends, to ensure that our teams are fully prepared to compete against the best swimmers both in Kuwait and across the Middle East.
