Pre Prep Pastoral & Curriculum

The Pre-Prep department has a lively and exciting atmosphere, with children eager to learn in our classes and outdoor play areas. The school values of confidence, empathy, integrity, positivity and respect are at the heart of all that we do and we are committed to providing every pupil with an education which will recognise their strengths, challenge and inspire them.

Pre-Prep covers our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children; KG and Reception classes are in the Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 are in Key Stage 1. Additionally, we are obliged to teach Arabic for Arabs and Islamic Studies for Arabs from Year 1 upwards.

We offer a broad and balanced academic learning experience alongside excellent pastoral care. For many families in our department, it is their children’s first time in a school and we strive to make that as happy and as comfortable an experience as possible.

Teaching at The English School is not rigidly based on age related learning objectives, but is based around the abilities of each child. Teachers plan and implement differentiated lessons that allow the more able to be stretched and the less able to be supported with work of an appropriate level; this enables all students to achieve success through appropriately levelled challenges.

Children from Year 1 upwards are assigned to one of four Houses (Balmoral, Buckingham, Sandringham, Windsor). All classes enjoy collecting house points to contribute to a team total and have individual targets when they reach Year 2. Throughout the year there are various events and competitions where house points are awarded. This fosters both a community spirit and healthy competition allowing children from the different classes and age groups to work together.

To foster responsibility, children in Year 2 are nominated to be members of the Playground Squad; helping with equipment and encouraging children to play together at playtimes. The squad members change every two weeks enabling all children to become involved. The school has a zero tolerance policy towards bullying and a detailed structure for child protection is in place.

Twice yearly, in Term 1 and 2, there are Parent Consultations, where you will have the opportunity to meet individually with the teacher for an update on your child’s progress. Twice yearly, at the end of Term 1 and 3, you will receive a formal written report on your child’s progress and attainment.
