Year 5 Curriculum Overview

There are three classes in Year 5. The class teacher is responsible for pastoral care and for the teaching of English, mathematics, history, geography, Kuwait Social Studies and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).

The children are taught art, design technology, French, ICT, music, physical education and science by subject specialists.

Arabic is taught to all children, with non-Arab children learning Arabic for foreigners. Islamic Studies for our Muslim children is taught separately to our Arab and non-Arab children in Year 5.

Children are setted by ability in mathematics. Timetables are available via the parent portal. Homework is set on a regular basis with a maximum of 30 minutes per night.

Chemistry: Properties and changes of materials.

Arabic All Arabic speaking students will follow an Arabic for Arabs course and all non-Arab students will follow an Arabic for foreigners course. Both courses are set annually by the Ministry of Education.

Islamic Studies All Muslim students, Arab and non-Arab, will follow two separate programmes as set annually by the Ministry of Education.
Kuwait Social Studies The physical features and natural history of Kuwait: location, topography, climate, flora and fauna, environment. The emergence of the State of Kuwait.
The Al-Sabah family. The Iraqi invasion. Kuwaiti family life – past and present.
Education, population growth, services, governorates, economic activity in the State of Kuwait now and in the past.
