The English School follows the National Curriculum for England. Pupils make the transition into the prep school in Year 3 when the day is extended for an additional hour. Specialist teaching in art, design & technology and games is added to that already established in pre prep: ICT, music and PE.
Children remain class based until Year 5 but the amount of specialist teaching they receive gradually increases. In Year 4 pupils start to learn French and in Year 5 there are specialist teachers for science. From Year 6 to 8 children have form tutors and all other teaching is via subject specialists. In Year 3 to 8 pupils are set according to ability for maths and all are required to learn Arabic. Children are encouraged to take on responsibilities from an early age in prep, including being part of the Tidy Team, a member of the School Council, Playground Squad or a Prefect in Year 8. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are available from 14:30-15:30 each day after school for children to sign up for on a termly basis.
The school has a zero tolerance policy towards bullying and a detailed structure for child protection is in place. The full-time nurse deals with illnesses and injuries that occur during the school day an notifies parents accordingly.
