On 1st December, Year 7 students took part in their Egg Drop. Students were given the design brief during DT lessons. They had to imagine that they lived in Leonardo Da Vinci’s time and were given the task of using only natural materials available at that time to design a capsule to carry an egg to a target without breaking. The capsule had to be made of as few materials as possible and be as light in weight as possible. The project made students think about the force of air resistance involved in slowing the capsule’s descent, and their design tried to maximise this force. It also involved thinking about the best choice of materials and the design of the capsule to absorb forces of impact to avoid breaking their egg.
The overall winners were:
1st: Yousef Abulenein – Eggstatic egg!
2nd: Shania Cook – Eggy, Steady, Go!
3rd: Donia Masoud – Eggstreme egg!
Best design: Aysha Al-Arfaj – Square Egg!
Well done to everyone for taking part, for their hard work and for having such fun making an eggy mess!
