“ORDER IN MY COURTROOM” was loudly proclaimed from one of our English classrooms on Thursday as Judge Hamzah banged his gavel on the table and brought 18 other excited pupils back to order.
Pupils from 6 Curie have been reading the novel, ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ in their English lessons and have enjoyed ‘charging’ one of the main characters with kidnapping a young boy named William Beech.
Pupils have spent their lesson time during the week preparing for the court case by taking a key character role from the novel. They then met with our ‘in-house’ defence and prosecution lawyers to give evidence taken from the novel- along with opinions about whether their beloved Mr Tom should be charged at all!
As court was called to session in the morning, tension ran high as pupils debated (sometimes rather loudly) whether ‘Mister Tom’ should be charged with child abduction; even if it was done out of love and concern for the child Tom took into his care.
Not only did 6 Curie impress their English teacher with their mature and sensitive approach to this debate, the costumes worn have set a very high standard for future year groups to aspire to. This was a wonderful start to the school day and all pupils are to be congratulated for their hard work and superb efforts last week. Keep up the fantastic work Year 6 - you continue to impress!
