ISACK U13 Boys Football; 5-a-side Tournament

The TES boys put in some very good performances during the 5-a-side tournament at DBS and were unfortunate to not finish higher than fifth in the seven team competition. In TES's opening game, they were evenly matched against ESF and started the competition well. The game was closely fought with the majority of the game being played in the middle of the pitch, however it was the TES boys that created the better scoring opportunities, but were unable to break the deadlock with the game finishing 0-0. The boys then had to wait an hour until their next match which was against TEA, it was a sloppy start to the game with the ball being given away in our defensive areas, resulting in 2 simple goals for TEA. The boys fought back into the game and got a goal back via Truman who followed up on a shot from Richard. Despite fighting their way back into the match, the boys just ran out of time, showing that you can't give away easy leads in the 10 minute matches. In the second of four back to back games, the team came up against the hosts DBS. It was a great performance by the team with Woojin, Maxwell, Truman and Jack playing attacking roles in rotation and Omar, Matthew and Richard sharing the defensive responsibilities. In a highly competitive match, Omar scored from a free kick to give TES the lead, then Richard added to the lead following up on a rebound from a shot by Omar. Unfortunately for us, lady luck was not on our side with a dubious penalty being given against us and a mishap with timings. DBS managed to sink 4 goals in the back of our net, meaning that after a fantastic start, we lost 4-2 to the hosts and eventual champions. Against KES the team raced out to a 2-0 lead when Omar intercepted a pass and scored, which Maxwell converted to score from good team play. Just when it looked like the team were going to earn their first win of the competition, KES managed to strike back and scored 2 goals in a matter of moments and a victory was snatched away from the team for the second consecutive game. Against BSK, the team looked weary after playing four times in a row and despite the squad rotation the team looked tired and were unable to keep up with the opposition who ran out as the eventual 3-0 winners. In the final game, the boys had an opportunity to rest and came out on fire and dominated the match from start to finish, passing the ball accurately and working hard for each other. In a great team performance, Woojin, Omar and Truman (with his left foot, shocker!) each got a goal to secure a well deserved 3-0 win. Overall the boys played really well and could have ended up with a much higher position, especially considering they had chances to beat the top three teams of DBS, ESF and KES. Fifth place today, but a valiant effort from all the boys! Well done.
ISACK U13 Girls Basketball
TES 31 - 24 KES

After a stunning netball season, the U13 Girls were looking to continue their undefeated reign in sport. We moved swiftly into the basketball season, facing KES in our first fixture.
We started the game well, looking strong offensively, with Darcy scoring two early baskets after being supported well by Angelina, Olivia, Melanie and Josefin. However KES came storming back after the opening few minutes, to level the scores at 4-4 after sinking a basket and both free throw shots after being fouled. For the remainder of the half, we were on the back foot, forced to work extremely hard to stay within touching distance of our opponents. At the end of the first quarter, the score stood at 7- 4 to KES. As we moved into the second quarter, Callie made her Basketball debut and proved to be a valuable asset to the team. The girls worked much harder defensively, ensuring that they were the stronger team on the rebounds and limiting KES’ scoring chances. The game became a much tighter affair once again, with both teams playing some good basketball. At halftime, the girls had managed to turn the tables on KES, and were up by 4 points. The second half was a much better performance overall. The girls came out strong in the third quarter and never relented offensively. They passed and move with greater accuracy and when pressured, protected the ball really well - I guess the pivoting and passing drills in netball paid off! KES still didn’t give up however, forcing our girls to work hard. But we mounted the pressure and scored some well worked baskets. After 30 minutes of intense play, we were leading by 10. In the fourth and final quarter, the girls were allowed to apply full-court press and did so in some style for the first 5 minutes with...basket, after basket, after basket. The girls were up by 14, with just over 5 minutes remaining. Our defence was much better and KES never looked like scoring. But just as we thought the game was ours, KES started to come back at us courtesy of some excellent dribbling and strength displayed by their point guard. As they etched closer to our score, our girls were forced to defend well and ensure that we were stronger on the rebounds. Our efforts in the end were enough, as the girls walked away with a 31-24 victory. Not their best performance, but a win is a win and they remain undefeated in the U13 league. Well done to all 11 girls for training so hard thus far!
ISACK U13 Boys Volleyball
TES 2 - 0 KES

The boys started the ISACK volleyball season in fine form against last year’s winners KES. TES put in a very convincing performance against a good KES team and proved to be too good on the day for their opposition. All match long, the serving from TES was excellent and they played a mistake free game, resulting in a 2-0 set victory at KES. The boys have put in a lot of training so far this year and some players were unfortunate to not be in the starting 6, which consisted of Jack, Woojin, Maxwell, Omar, Ben and Truman. The boys on the bench have made big contributions and were very vocal in support of their teammates. Led by a very loud Rafael, the rest of the boys were talking and aiding the victory, Richard, Jad, Thomas and Amer played a part in the success. On the court, the serving of all six players was tough for the opponents to deal with, particularly Woojin who was hitting the ball with venom. The opening set was not really in doubt from the opening few points and TES ran out 25-14 winners. In the second set, the strong KES captain helped his team race out to a 5-0 lead with some excellent serving. The boys kept their composure and won the serve and proceeded to take the lead and played with extreme confidence throughout. Using their 3 touches effectively and taking advantage of the size of Ben and Woojin, the boys were able to attack with conviction and played some outstanding points. In a tighter set the TES team still proved to be too much and won 25-18. A great start to the season boys, well done!
