KFSAC 3/4/5/6 Mixed Athletics Competition

For the ninth consecutive year, TES were once again crowned champions of the Year 3-6 Athletics competition. The event happens once a year, with 20 students participating from each school. 5 girls and 5 boys from Years 3 and 4 and the same in Years 5 and 6. The events included high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin, shot put, hurdles and a shuttle relay.
Going into the competition, the children looked and felt confident, having just returned from the BSME U11 Games as the Athletics and Overall champions. Our 3/4 boys and girls performed extremely well across all of the events, scoring maximum points in the vast majority. The boys in particular had a near perfect run in the events, scoring maximum points on the High Jump! Our 3/4 girls supported them well, scoring big points in the triple jump and javelin events.
Our Year 5/6 ‘s had a fantastic afternoon of athletics, particularly in the triple jump where maximum points were scored! They also scored maximum on the high jump event and were strong in all others.
It was a fantastic performance from every child. Each of them has worked incredibly hard over the past 3 months and were the deserving champions, having won the competition by over 100 points. Well done, champions!
KFSAC 3/4 Boys Football Tournament
The KFSAC boys put in some excellent performances over the course of two days in the Year 3 and 4 Football tournament in Bayan. From 12 competing teams the boys did well to finish in the top 5 and were unfortunate to miss out on a semi-final. This year’s team included Sebastian, Adham, Andrew, Mohammad, Thomas, Carl and Tarik and they all made good contributions to the team and were great ambassadors for TES. On Sunday, the boys played 3 group matches and opened up the tournament with an excellent 2-0 win against ATIS. TES dominated the game from the beginning to the end, with Tom and Mohammad each scoring in the opening fixture. In the second of the back to back games, the boys outplayed ESF and secured a 1-0 win with a goal from Tom. The third fixture was against BSK but the boys could not keep their winning momentum and lost out 1-0. It was unlucky because the boys gave away a soft goal then had good spells in the game and hit the posts twice - but just couldn't find the equaliser! During the Tuesday matches the boys had 2 further group games and then a knockout match. In the first of the group games the boys put in an excellent display against KAS where Sebastian in goal did not touch the ball and managed a convincing 2-0 win. It really could have been a lot more! This time the goals were scored by Carl and Andrew, with Tom, Tarik and Mohamed all also going close to scoring in the match. In the final group game against TEA, both sides knew that a victory would send them through to the semi finals. Unfortunately for TES it was TEA that proceeded to the top 4. The boys made a couple of sloppy errors which led to a TEA goal before Sebastian in goal made a couple of great saves to keep the score at 1-0. TEA added a second goal with a great strike that flew into the top corner of the goal. The TES boys fought back and Tom finished a well worked team goal and the TES boys continued to apply pressure but just couldn't find an equaliser. The boys finished 3rd in the pool and went into a 5th place playoff versus KNES. In the game the TES boys pushed forward and dominated the match with Tom, Mohammad, Carl and Tarik all having chances to score but were just unable to convert the opportunities. Sebastian, Adham and Andrew in defence had very little to do but the match still ended up going to penalties. Tom stepped up as first penalty taker and his effort was saved by the KNES keeper. The first KNES penalty was hit wide. Adham then smashed his strike into the bottom corner of the goal and Sebastian made an impressive save, tipping the KNES shot over the crossbar. Captain Andrew then won the shootout for TES with a calmly placed shot into the bottom corner of the goal. Over the 2 days the boys played some fantastic football and scored a load of goals in the process! An excellent effort to finish 5th overall.
ISACK U13 Girls Volleyball
TES 2 - 1 KES

After a very disappointing start to their volleyball season last week, the U13 girls were hoping to put things right on Tuesday. It was clear from the warm up that the girls were ready and far more prepared than last week when they played against NES. Credit to our opponents though, KES too looked sharp from the off.
In the first set, we took a 3 -0 lead. The first few points were played to a very high standard by both teams, with long rallies being carried out. 3 touches were used well by us as well as KES, so it was clear from the outset, that this was going to be a good match. KES however came back very quickly and before we knew it, we were on the back foot and chasing KES for the remainder of the first set. KES made it difficult for our girls to get back into the game and ended up winning the first set 25-18, despite a late surge from our girls; it wasn’t enough this time. Despite going one set down, the game was far from over. We started the second set off brilliantly, thanks to some excellent serving and three touch volleyball when it was needed. We were 5-0 up and KES didn’t have a response yet. Our girls’ confidence and momentum grew, as we extended our lead further. For a short while however, the game became very nip and tuck. KES managed a 4 point streak during the middle of the set, so there was no way we could switch off now. We managed to break away to 20-14 and looked good for the win. KES however, were not going to let us win so easily. They dug deep and piled the pressure on, forcing TES to work for the set victory. 22-18, 22-19, 22-20...KES were catching and quickly! Credit to our girls however, who did not let their hard work be undone at the very last minute. They managed to win the set 25-22 in the end, meaning a third and final set would decide today’s outcome.
Momentum and confidence were on our side. However our opening serve meant that we fell 1-0 behind. Then it was 1-1 as KES too, failed to land their serve. 2-1 TES, 3-1, 4-1. Now we were back in business. 4-2, 4-3, 4-4. The game continued point for point, with KES reaching 8-7 first, meaning that as we changed end, they were on the up. Our girls worked hard though to win back the serve, and thanks to fantastic commitment and determination to return the ball, our girls took the serve away. 3 aces in a row and then two fantastic rallies, meant we were now only 2 points away from victory, as the score stood at 13-8. KES managed to win back the serve though. In the end, KES made us work for it, but TES gritted their teeth when they needed to and managed to pull out a 15-9 win in the final set.
Well done girls; today’s match was a test of nerve and commitment and you all passed with flying colours! Next week, we face TEA away at Qadsiya club. Here’s hoping their confidence continues to grow during the remainder of the season!
ISACK U13 Boys Basketball
TES 27 - 41 KES
TES lost the second fixture of the ISACK Basketball league season away to KES. KES had a very solid team that took advantage of a sloppy first quarter by the TES boys. In the opening quarter TES were turning over the ball sloppily and not getting enough good shots off. Defensively the boys were not aggressive enough and KES had two excellent players that scored early and often. With a fast start by the opposition and a slow start from our boys, the first quarter ended with a 16-4 lead for the home team. In the second quarter, the boys continued to compete but were still a step or two behind the KES boys and were also losing out on a number of rebounds at both ends of the court. At the end of the first half, KES had stretched their lead to 14. After some halftime adjustments the boys competed a lot better and started to match the scoring of the home team and were also forcing the KES defense to commit fouls which resulted in a foul out for one of the KES star players. From that point on, the game was much more even and the lead was not extended, despite TES still making some silly errors. Overall the second half was a lot better performance wise from the boys but they were playing from behind the entire contest. On the day the boys lost to a stronger KES team with a final score of 41-27.
