ISACK U13 Girls Volleyball Final
TES 2 - 1 NES
Well it was a dream worth fighting for, but in the end, the girls were unable to claim their fifth title this academic year. But it wasn’t through a lack of trying! The NES U13 girls volleyball team are the only squad who have beaten our girls this entire academic year. Both teams were fired up for the final, with both teams giving it everything they had.
In the first set, it was clear that our girls were nervous. A few silly mistakes and obvious terror of the task ahead, meant that we went down 25-16. We were behind from the start and despite our best efforts to claw our way back into the set, NES rampaged to victory. 1-0 down - but we certainly weren’t out!
As we moved into the second set, everyone watching knew that this would be a test of personal determination and fighting spirit. Before we knew it, we were 6-0 down again!! A swift time out though and some superb serving by Amelia, saw us work our way back into the set. We were now on a roll and for much of the second set, NES were now chasing us. The girls really did show nerves of steal, putting in a gutsy and more confident effort, to win the second set 25-17. Anyone watching applauded the efforts of our TES girls as they went from zero to hero in a matter of minutes. Tension was now at an all time high in the gym, as both teams knew the first to 15 in this third and final set, would walk away with the trophy and title.
We had momentum on our side, so we thought this would be ours; but NES came out fighting! Before we knew it, we were 9-0 down and things looked like they were over. Fortunately, we got our act together and managed to claw our way back into this match. 10-9, 10-10, 11-10, 11-11...then suddenly 14-11 to NES - set and championship point! If we lost this point, it was all over! Our girls dug deep and responded well to a great serve from the NES player. 14-12; we were back in control. 14-13, 14-14, 15-14, 15-15. 2 points were needed from one of the squads to win this match. You could cut the tension with a knife! It was our serve...out it went! 16-15 to NES. Their serve; they only needed one more! The serve came over at quite a speed and our girls, who had fought so hard all match, suddenly didn’t respond as we watched the ball hit the floor. 17-15 to NES; the dream was over!!
After fighting so gallantly all game long, the girls were heart broken. But credit to our opponents for making it a most entertaining final.
The girls have had an excellent season overall, to top off what has been a superb year for our U13 girls campaign. Well done, to all of the girls involved. I wish all of our Year 8 students the very best of luck in their next endeavours!
